christmas 2010

The Christmas season was a lot of fun this year. As the kids get older, there continues to be more and more to look forward to during the holidays. Here are some pictures of some our favorite moments:

advent

One of my favorite Christmas memories from when I was a kid is this advent calendar we had. It's a Santa Claus that my mom made. She would fill it with daily treats and gifts that my brother and I would race to find every morning. My mom gave it to me several years ago and this year, for the first year, I renewed the tradition for McKenna and Rhett. Here they are getting their first treat of December:

playing tackle

Are you starting to see the whole football theme? I tell you what... this kid doesn't think of much else.

halloween 2010

Halloween was especially fun this year because McKenna and Rhett are old enough to decide what they wanted to be. McKenna chose to be Foofa, a character from her favorite show, Yo Gabba Gabba. Rhett wanted to be... well... guess... a football player. Trick-or-treating was fun too! McKenna definitely understood what was in it for her and wasn't at all afraid to go to strangers' doors to ring their doorbells. In fact, when it was time to go home to get ready for bed, she said "but there are all these houses with their porch lights on that we haven't been to yet!"

I didn't get any good pictures from Halloween night, but here are a few pictures from their Halloween party at school:

my little football player

As a mom who wants to protect her son from injury in his life, I hope most of all that Rhett never wants to play football. Unfortunately, right now, all signs point to football. He is obsessed! Some of his most frequently used words are football, tackle, hike, and Willie (yes, he's a true Wildcat!). And... he's showing us that he has quite the arm.

summer vacation

Our summer vacation kept us closer to home this year. We picked THE HOTTEST week of the year to go to Table Rock Lake near Branson, Missouri. Despite the heat, we had a wonderful time relaxing on the lake. Here are a few pictures of how we spent our vacation.

quiet morning

I spent the usual morning quietly getting ready for work as everyone else slept in. On this particular morning, as I was getting ready to head out the door, I discovered that Rhett was already up. Instead of hanging at the gate crying for someone to come get him (as he usually does), he was sitting in his rocking chair reading a book... and so I spied on him:

the damage is done

McKenna took it upon herself to cut her hair! I should have been prepared considering her interest in "scissoring". I can't decide whether to let it be or trim (OK, cut) the rest of her hair. It would be an easy decision if her hair didn't grow so slow. :(

cute and not-so-cute houses

Our neighbor's house is decorated like something straight out of Better Homes and Gardens. The other day Duke took McKenna over there to borrow something and when they walked into his house she said "Paul's house is cute!" When Duke told me this, I said "I wish our house was cute." McKenna responded "Yeah... but it's not."

Goal for the summer: decorate!

home, sweet home

We've been in our house for four months now and finally got sod this week. Wahoo!! What a transformation. It finally feels like home.

is it nap time yet?

We've all seen similar videos on shows like 'America's Funniest Videos', but they just never get old.

time out

Sometimes, it's painfully enlightening to watch you kids mimic your actions. Poor Bear got put in time out... facing the corner...for like 20 minutes (that last part has never happened. I promise!!) I'm glad to say that these days are over... for Bear AND for McKenna.

tidbits

Sara is right. This blog should be titled something like 'A Few Things About the Hutches Every Once in a Blue Moon'. I've taken step one - I made a list of things from the past six months that I would like to post. Now let's see if I can follow through. For now, here are some pictures taken since Rhett's birthday.

McKenna was helping me put laundry away last night. She picked up a pair of Duke's underpants and asked me if they were mine. I said "No, those are Daddy's." She held them up, arms stretched out and said "WOW! Those are BIG underpants."

Hee hee. I'm glad she wasn't commenting on how big my butt is this time.

dinner time

This isn't near as funny without hearing the tone in McKenna's voice, but I just had to share:

McKenna always sits next to Duke at the dinner table, but the other night she announced that she was going to sit in a different chair.

Duke: "You don't want to sit by me?"
McKenna: "No."
Duke: "Why not?"
McKenna: "I don't know. (long pause, then VERY matter-of-factly) I guess I just don't want to sit by you."

words i'm not supposed to say

McKenna: "Mom, I'm not supposed to say 'shoot'"
Me: "You can say 'shoot'. It's the other word you can't say.
McKenna: "Oh. I can't say 'shit'"
Me: "That's right, McKenna. Don't say that word."
Pause
McKenna: "Mom, I'm not supposed to say 'shit'"
Me: "That's right, DON'T say that word."
McKenna: "Mom, Im not supposed to say..."
Me: "McKenna, DON'T say that word."
McKenna: "Mom..."
Me: "DON'T say it."
McKenna: "Mom..."
Me: "DONT'T SAY IT!"
McKenna: "What?!? All I'm saying is 'Mom'"

back in commission

WOW! I can't believe nearly three months have passed since I've updated the blog. A LOT has happened since my last post. I've added several new posts dating back to September in an effort to date the post when the event actually happened. So, if you go back and view posts since September, you should be able to catch up with all that's new.
